Grit Isn’t Going Anywhere

Throughout this month we have talked about grit. Grit when it comes to failure, when it loyalty, and when it comes to effort.

One thing that I know for sure is that grit is hard.

When I think about the people who have to get up every day even though it is easier to stay in bed, I know that they are doing it because they need to. They want to help themselves and they want to help others.

Grit isn’t only about making sure you stay strong amidst a struggle. It is also being there for yourself, others, and trying to smile when all you want to do is cry.

There are going to be times when you fall down. There are going to be times when you realize that you may not be as strong as you once thought you were.

That is all the more reason to fight. To get up, stare your struggle in the face and say, “I am a fighter. I’ve gone through hard things and I can make it through this.”

And then you go on your way. You smile and laugh so others can be happy.

There are going to be times when you cry. There are going to be times when you want to give up. Keep going.

Give yourself time to mourn then say, “I’m done being sad for myself. Let’s make someone else happy.”

Life doesn’t serve lemonade but it does hand you lemons so you can make it.

I know that I am going to struggle but I want to be the type of person who, in fear, still gets up and has the courage to persevere. A person who can change the world with a smile.

I’m going to remember learning about grit for the rest of my life. The one thing that I hope will stick in this one lesson:

You may feel weak; you may feel fragile; but the thing inside of you, the one that makes you keep on fighting against the odds, is grit.

It’s not going anywhere.
