Talent Doesn’t Mean Everything

When I was little, I tried different hobbies to see if I liked them or not. I tried ballet, tap, soccer, and soon I realized that I didn’t like any of them or rather I wasn’t good at any of them.

I got frustrated with myself and I quit.

The reason why was because I didn’t think that I was naturally good at it, I didn’t have any naturally talent.

Natural talent isn’t all that it seems though. Recently, I have been reading Grit: The Power of Passion and Perseverance by Angela Duckworth. In the book, she says, “Without effort, your talent is nothing more than unmet potential. Without effort, your skill is nothing more than what you could have done but didn’t.”

I think this is something that we all have to realize about talent. While talent can come naturally, there is nothing that can get you further in life without effort.

I loved that in her book, she said that those who just used their talent and didn’t use effort did well but those who used effort went on to be the most successful.

It makes me wonder what talents I have that if I just used a bit more effort, could become amazing.

In my life, I try to make sure that I put in the effort along with my talents.

One of those talents is my writing. Each week I have been writing blog post along with doing my homework which is mostly writing. And now I am doing a super-secret project that will be announced on my Instagram on Friday!

While I have been working on that project, I have had to learn a bunch of new skills. It’s something that somewhat comes naturally to me but I still have to put in the effort. Honestly, I’m so excited about sharing it with everyone that I can’t stop talking about it!

Working hard to make your talents become the best they can be is important to make sure that you can be the best you can be.

I am also glad that this month’s topic is grit. What I want to know from you is what talent do you have that you have had to work hard to become better?
